Alberta’s New Traffic Camera Rules — The Bottom Line
Alberta has changed its traffic enforcement laws. Drivers can no longer be penalized by most traffic cameras unless a city receives special provincial approval for a specific intersection where an existing camera is located.
Photo radar and “speed‑on‑green” tickets are largely gone. Enforcement is now limited mainly to school zones, playgrounds, and construction zones, or to individual intersections proven to be high‑risk.
In short: no approval, no ticket — even if a camera is already there.
